Every year, the U.S. State Department issues a “Trafficking in Person’s Report.” The report describes the state of human trafficking related to unfree labor. The 2011 edition was issued yesterday, June 27, 2011. Although unrelated to the emancipation of slaves in the American Civil War, that slavery persists in various forms in the world, including in the United States, 150 years after the end of African slavery does dishonor to celebrating it and the memory of the slaves themselves.
CNN also has a nice article on this year’s report, which serves as an effective executive summary.
